After the war, 609 Squadron was stood down, and the name transferred back to the Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
Seven days later the squadron, along with all other 19 flying units of the since 1947 Royal Auxiliary Air Force, disbanded.
The latter year he also joined the Royal Auxiliary Air Force and qualified as a pilot the following year.
There are no plans to restore a flying role to squadrons of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
He resigned that appointment and retired from the Royal Auxiliary Air Force on 1 September 1973.
