In the late 18th century and early 19th century several small cottage industries developed, particularly along North Main Street.

The road passes homes, heading into the commercial downtown and becoming North Main Street.

All but one property (18 North Main Street) are considered contributing to the district's historic character.

The high school was moved to North Main Street in 1953 when a new building was erected.

The wind shifted again to the west, spreading the fire across North Main Street.

A new high school building was built on North Main Street and was used until January 2008.

Most notable are the two downtown blocks of historic buildings located on North Main Street.

In 1861, it was dismantled and rebuilt on North Main Street.
