Bacteria - International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria (ICNB)

Names published before 1992 in the rank of variety are taken to be names of subspecies (see International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria)

Characterization (in bacteriology), a technique used to identify a bacterial species, study its features, strain properties and systematically name it according to International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria.

In 1997 the name was changed to Streptomyces scabiei following a grammatical convention as set out in Rule 12c of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria.

The International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria (ICNB) follows the tradition of including both original and revising authors (as with the ICBN), but years are also included.

The classification, taxonomy, and nomenclature of zoological organisms is administered by the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, and International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria for animals and bacteria, respectively.

The strain EbN1 has not been described in detail, therefore, according to the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria, the name "Aromatoleum aromaticum" is not valid (cf.) and is officially it is referred to Azoarcus sp.

The International Committee on Systematic Bacteriology (ICSB) maintains international rules for the naming of bacteria and taxonomic categories and for the ranking of them in the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria.

Because C. necator was named in 1987 far before the name change to R. eutropha and W. eutropha, the name C. necator was assigned to R. eutropha according to Rule 23a of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria.

In microbiology, the term "chemoform" or "chemovar" is preferred in the 1990 edition of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria (ICNB), the former referring to the chemical constitution of an organism and the latter meaning "production or amount of production of a particular chemical."
