Dry stone revetting was also found in one ditch.

The revetting was retained around the loading casemates, as one can see in the image above.

Ideally the revetting will also be dug in below ground level so as to minimise damage from fire and tank tracks.

The revetting helps the DFP resist cave in from near misses from artillery or mortars and tank tracks.

The site was later used for a Tor-Hous or Medieval Castle which had 4ft thick internal walls, with the revetting of the scarp of the inner ditch in stone.

The period around 650 experienced an apparent change in burial rite: barrows with horizontal wooden revetting at the base of the mound appeared in the region, and the cremated remains were deposited on the top of the mound.

Subsequent review of the fort's defences after its completion identified this as a weakness, and the stone revetting was removed from most of the emplacement and replaced with plain earthworks, presumably to better absorb the energy of incoming shellfire.
