The companies represented by Pew include DuPont, the Enron Corporation and Alcoa.

Other Dow components that gained included Alcoa, which rose 1 7/8, to 64 3/8, and DuPont, up 1 7/8, to 97 7/8.

Among the 30 Dow stocks, the strongest performers yesterday included Alcoa, up $1.16, to $37.30; American Express, up $1.27, to $37.72; and International Paper, up $1.24, to $41.94.
