The larvae feed on Oenanthe, Sium, Berula and Apium nodiflorum.

Plants to be found around the edges of the ponds include lesser spearwort, trifid bur-marigold and fool's watercress (Apium nodiflorum).

Apium nodiflorum has short-stalked umbels of very small white 5-petalled flowers which are opposite the leaves and grow from the side of the stem at the leaf axils.

The river contains unbranched bur-reeds (Sparganium erectum and Sparganium emersum) and fool's watercress (Apium nodiflorum), and supports water voles, kingfishers and reed buntings.
