For the first time in four years, the college will add 10 new positions to meet the demand for expanded campus, student and computer services.

The insurance and real estate industries added 5,000 and 7,000 positions, respectively.

During those same years, however, the city government and related agencies added more than 30,000 new positions.

Professional and business services, which includes everything from janitors to temporary workers, added 80,000 positions.

The county has added 20 new positions in two years, for a total of 87 caseworkers.

Service companies, on the other hand, added 95,000 new positions, close to the average of 112,000 a month over the last year.

And local government, which added 10,000 positions so far this year, will shed at least 7,000.

To create 2.6 million jobs by the end of this year, the nation would have to add more than 230,000 positions each month from now until January.

In the last year we have filled every vacancy and added four new positions.

But service businesses, whose employees range from computer technicians to security guards, added 124,000 positions, an increase of 4.4 percent.
