The Union Canal goes by here into the city.
It also boasts the only dry dock on the Union Canal.

The name came about due to the area's use as a place to deposit goods meant to be transported on the Union Canal.
The new name was also meant to convey its role as a bridge between several local communities along the Union Canal.
