"N. Y. Export: Opus Jazz" may be seen tonight, Tuesday, Thursday and next Saturday afternoon.

"N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz" is not a picaresque invention about street life and young people with little future.

"N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz" is not a literal piece of dance theater.

Ramasar appeared in NY Export: Opus Jazz, a 2010 film about that ballet.

Even the major revivals, like last spring's "N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz," are by Robbins (in that case) or Balanchine.

Robbins, who died in 1998, had said that City Ballet was too classical for the street style of "Opus Jazz."

Taking Europe by storm ("An epic ballet," wrote the British critic Richard Buckle of "Opus Jazz"), the troupe became an official cultural export.

It disbanded in 1962 after two special appearances that year, each with "Opus Jazz" on the program.

When he joined Ballets: U.S.A. in 1961, "Opus Jazz" was its big hit.

And there was a refreshing dose of gang glee from Jerome Robbins's "N.Y. Export: Opus Jazz."
