Superficial mycoses are limited to the outermost layers of the skin and hair.

It is used for the topical treatment of superficial mycoses of the skin.

Other superficial mycoses (not classic ringworm, since not caused by dermatophytes)

Oyelami et al. (2003) concluded that Acalypha wilkesiana ointment can be used to treat superficial mycoses.

Unlike the superficial mycoses, host immune responses may be evoked resulting in pathologic changes expressed in the deeper layers of the skin.

Ciclopirox olamine (used in preparations called Batrafen, Loprox, Mycoster, Penlac and Stieprox) is a synthetic antifungal agent for topical dermatologic treatment of superficial mycoses.

In addition, the use of antibacterial soaps when suffering from superficial mycoses can greatly enhance the pathogenicity of the fungus in question by removing potential bacterial competition, causing a rapid increase in fungal growth.
