muscular lacuna

It is separated from the muscular lacuna by the iliopectineal arch.

Medial to the anterior superior iliac spine it leaves the pelvic area through the lateral muscular lacuna.

The iliopectinal arch thus forms a septum which subdivides the space deep to the inguinal ligament into a lateral muscular lacuna and a medial vascular lacuna.

It joins the psoas major to form the Iliopsoas as which it proceeds across the iliopubic eminence through the muscular lacuna to its insertion on the lesser trochanter of the femur.

In the pelvic area, it runs in a groove between psoas major and iliacus giving off branches to both muscles, and exits the pelvis through the medial aspect of muscular lacuna.

The Muscular lacuna (Latin: lacuna musculorum) is the lateral compartment inferior to the inguinal ligament, for the passage of the iliopsoas muscle and femoral nerve; it is separated by the iliopectineal arch from the vascular lacuna.
