Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (LCNOT)

This chronic neurological disorder involves a single nerve-the lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (also called the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve or lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathy).

In 1895 Roth described meralgia paraesthetica (Bernhardt-Roth syndrome), a disease characterized by numbness or pain in the outer thigh, caused by an injury of the lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh.

In the Canadian Medical Association Journal 2003, Dr. Malvinder S. Parmar pointed out that wearing tight low-rise jeans may put pressure on a sensory nerve, the lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh, which can cause pain and paresthesia in the nerve's area of distribution.

The Lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (L2, L3) leaves psoas major laterally below the previous nerve, runs obliquely and laterally downward above the Iliacus muscle, exits the pelvic area near the anterior superior iliac spine, and supplies the skin of the anterior thigh.
