There is an inlier of rocks of Silurian age in the heart of the county.

A value below indicates a denser region (which would be an inlier), while values significantly larger than indicate outliers.

A value of 1 or even less indicates a clear inlier, but there is no clear rule for when a point is an outlier.

Each inlier is separated on the surface by the base of the Grassington Grit.
