It was designed using the principle of entasis.

Entasis is an award-winning Danish architecture firm based in Copenhagen.

Entasis was founded by Christian and Signe Cold in 1996.

However, the narrowing is not regular, but gently curved so that each columns appears to have a slight swelling, called entasis below the middle.
