Some compounds break down endothermically when subjected to high temperatures.

They endothermically decompose releasing both water and carbon dioxide, giving fire retardant properties to the materials in which they are incorporated.

Hydromagnesite decomposes endothermically, giving off water and carbon dioxide, leaving a magnesium oxide residue.
