Trisopterus esmarkii, the Norway pout, is a species of fish in the cod family.

It is a known spawning area for sand-eels, herring, Norway pout and, at low densities, mackerel.

This issue has been addressed by closure of part of the North Sea to Norway Pout fishing.

Rates also vary for industrial species (herring, sprat, sandeel and Norway pout), fluctuating considerably according to stock density at any given time.

The main industrial species (sandeel, Norway pout, capelin, blue whiting and sprat) account for more than 70% of the landed tonnage.

There, cod have been so depleted that fishermen have concentrated on a second-level prey species of the cod, the Norway pout.

For this reason alone, I am alarmed that we continue to allow industrial fishing for sand eels and Norway pout in the North Sea.

Poor cod and Norway pout were the most common fin-fish species and Norway Lobster the most common shell-fish.
