Kodak Fortress

After the Treaty of Pereyaslav in 1654, Kodak fortress was manned by the Cossacks.

To secure the troublesome south-eastern border, the Commonwealth began construction of a new fortress, the Kodak fortress, finished in July 1635.

On the night of 3 to 4 August 1635 he took the newly constructed Kodak fortress by surprise, burning it and executing its crew of about 200 people under Jean Marion.

Soon after the Kodak fortress was finished, after returning from a raid to the Black Sea against the Ottomans, Cossack leader Ivan Sulyma decided to rebel against the Commonwealth.

After receiving intelligence that the Polish Army is heading for the Kodak fortress, Khmelnytsky decided to leave the Sich on April 22 with his main element ( 2,000 Cossacks) towards Kryliv and Chyhyryn.
