trigeminal lemniscus

The trigeminal lemniscus runs parallel to the medial lemniscus, which carries touch/position information from the rest of the body to the thalamus.

From the main trigeminal nucleus, secondary fibers cross the midline and ascend in the trigeminal lemniscus to the contralateral thalamus.

Touch/position information from the body is carried to the thalamus by the medial lemniscus; this information from the face is carried to the thalamus by the trigeminal lemniscus.

The Trigeminal lemniscus is a part of the brain that conveys tactile, pain, and temperature impulses from the skin of the face, the mucous membranes of the nasal and oral cavities, and the eye, as well as proprioceptive information from the facial and masticatory muscles.
